Electromagnetic waves (light) that can't be seen by humans because they're of a much higher frequency than we can see. Literally, beyond red. Often used for wireless devices such as remote controls and hearing impaired systems. Such systems can be interfered with by outdoor light, candle light, and objects in the path of the transmitter to receiver. Abbreviated IR.
