sur le cou-de-pieds

  1. Neck of the foot. A position of the working foot on or around the ankle of the supporting leg; sur le cou-de-pieds side, back or front.

  2. ["on the neck of the foot"]. A position. A foot is sur le cou-de-pied if it is placed on the the calf just above the ankle. In the Russian school, the foot is actually wrapped around the ankle, with the heel forward and the toes back. It may be placed on the front of the calf in this position, at the side, or in back. The back position is sometimes called, incorrectly, coupé.
