A soft, bluish-white metal, similar in many respects to zinc, copper, and lead
ores. Almost all cadmium is obtained as a byproduct in the treatment of these
ores. Symbol, Cd. Used in electroplating, in solder, for batteries, as a
barrier to control atomic fission, and in TV tubes. Cadmium and solutions of
