Dipole best approximating earth's observed field is one inclined 11.5� from axis of rotation. Points at which ends of this imaginary magnetic axis intersect earth's surface are known as geomagnetic poles. They should not be confused with magnetic, or dip, poles or virtual geomagnetic poles.
