ijolite

A series of plutonic rocks containing nepheline and 30% to 60% mafic minerals, generally clinopyroxene, and including sphene, apatite, and melanite; also, any rock of that series. Melteigite and jacupirangite are more mafic members of the series; urtite is a type rich in nepheline. Named by Ramsay in 1891 for Ijola (Iivaara), Finland. AGI
