A rock of complex mineralogical composition, formed by contact metamorphism and metasomatism of carbonate rocks. It is typically coarse-grained and rich in garnet, iron-rich pyroxene, epidote, wollastonite, and scapolite. Approximate syn: skarn. See also: calc-silicate hornfels
