A vibration drilling technique that can be used in drilling, cutting, and
shaping of hard materials. In this method, ultrasonic vibrations are generated
by the compression and extension of a core of electrostrictive or
magnetostrictive material in a rapidly alternating electric or magnetic field.
The most easily assembled is a magnetostrictive transducer, and the most common
magnetostrictive materials, which change in dimension when magnetized, are
