- That system of organs and nerves in which catecholamines are the
neurotransmitters.
- All the nerve cells for which epinephrine and norepinephrine (and more
broadly, other monoamines, dopamine, and serotonin) are the transmitter
substances, as opposed to the cholinergic system, which consists of the nerve
cells activated by acetylcholine.
