- A complex protein produced by the cells to act as a catalyst in regulating
metabolic activities.
- An organic compound that interacts with a biological substrate to form a new
chemical, either (and more commonly) through the process of synthesis or
degradation. For example, the enzyme monoamine oxidase degrades biogenic
amines.
