general paralysis

(general paresis) A form of tertiary neurosyphilis; a general medical condition occasionally associated with other neurologic signs of syphilitc involvement of the nervous system. Detectable with laboratory tests of the blood or spinal fluid. Formerly known as GPI (general paralysis of the insane), an obsolete term.
