- Procedure (often legally required prior to treatment administration) in which
a patient receives a full and understandable explanation of the treatment being
offered and makes a decision about whether to accept or refuse the treatment.
Also, the agreement of a person to serve as a research subject or to enter
therapy after being told the possible outcomes, both benefits and risks.
- Permission by the patient for a medical procedure based on understanding the
nature of the procedure, the risks involved, the consequences of withholding
