Thomas H. Huxley (1825-1895) An English biologist and surgeon, referred to protoplasm as ‘the physical basis of life’
(1868). He made important contributions in the studies of arthropods. In
addition he made important contributions in the fields of comparative anatomy
and paleontology. He also actively supported the views of Charles Darwin and
assisted in promoting them extensively.
