Efforts at
destroying the inequality of the social
stratification system in society and bringing that society to a condition of socially
structured equality and classlessness. The ruination of hierarchical pattern and
arrangement in society. Destratification is essentially concerned with class
relationships (particularly the relations of
economic production, or the positioning of class vis-a-vis the means of economic
production). Destratification is manifest empirically and sociologically in what could be
called "class" social movements; those
movements whose focus is centered upon the economic base or core of socially structured
inequality. Democratic socialist movements are an excellent example.
