- A transparent to translucent, purple to pale-violet variety of quartz common as a semiprecious gemstone. The color results from a hole defect associated with ferric iron substitution for silicon. Syn: bishop's stone
- A term applied to a deep-purple variety of corundum and to a pale reddish-violet variety of beryl.
