A standard reference for power in audio work using a milliwatt (mW, 1000th of a watt). Decibels themselves are only a ratio based on the resistance/impedance of a circuit, the dBm gives a fixed reference/constant of decibels referenced to 1 milliwatt to then obtain fixed values. 0 dBm=1mW.
