A term generally restricted to primary foliation parallel to the bedding of sedimentary rocks; i.e., it forms while the sediment is being deposited and compacted. It is the result of the parallelism of the platy materials to the bedding plane, partly because they were deposited that way and partly because they were rotated into this position during compaction.  <i>AGI </i>
