Beta particle decay

A radioactive process in which the atomic number, Z, of the radioactive nuclide changes but the mass number, A, does not. In electron emission, Z increases. In positron emission or in electron capture, Z decreases. [Mortimer, Charles. Chemistry, (1986) Wadsworth Publishing, New York.]
